Crossroads StrongBox 2.3 Elevates Solution Capabilities for Unstructured Data Management
StrongBox disk expanded for use as primary storage with built-in protection for online, nearline and archive storage
PR Newswire
AUSTIN, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Crossroads Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRDS) today announced general availability of StrongBox® 2.3, the latest release of its network-attached storage (NAS) appliance that continues to answer data archiving needs and now also addresses primary storage requirements that demand greater performance and accessibility.

With the release of StrongBox 2.3, users can employ the StrongBox NAS for two use cases: as primary storage via the new expanded disk functions and as an active archive for long-term data retention. The flexibility comes from new user-defined disk policies that bolster the performance of the system and allow online, nearline and archival storage. Organizations can now use StrongBox to simplify their storage of unstructured data, ensure data protection without third party backup applications, and dramatically reduce storage costs.

Additional features include an enhanced icon-driven graphical user interface (GUI) that delivers simple system management. Users will experience greater system performance with expanded policies for data management and file sharing as well as improved media verification for superior data protection. Files can always be protected on LTFS tape using StrongBox's unique, automated data protection policy engine.

The StrongBox NAS is also now compatible with Oracle, allowing customers with StorageTek ACSLS-managed tape libraries to deploy StrongBox for simplified data management and fast access to data on tape. This enhances StrongBox's ability to support LTFS libraries from all major manufacturers: IBM, Spectra Logic, Oracle, Dell, HP, Qualstar, Tandberg and Quantum.

"StrongBox 2.3 combines cost-effective and long-term data preservation capabilities with the performance needed for primary storage," said Richard K. Coleman, Jr., President and CEO at Crossroads Systems. "What makes this capability unique is that data in the StrongBox NAS is intrinsically protected and does not require backup. Thus, customers' active files and archival information are both securely stored and protected for the future in one seamless solution. This added capability expands our market opportunity by allowing for deployments in more diverse, performance-driven storage environments."
