Crossroads Systems Announces Upcoming LTO-7 Support for StrongBox NAS and VSeries LTFS Libraries
Expands capacity for high-volume data growth
PR Newswire
AUSTIN, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Crossroads Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRDS) today announced that its StrongBox® network-attached storage (NAS) solution and VSeries tape libraries will support the recently unveiled Linear Tape-Open Generation 7 (LTO-7) technology.

With up to 6TB of un-compressed storage, LTO-7 makes a significant stride for capacity expansion and doubles the tape cartridge capacity of LTO-6 technology. The newest LTO format empowers faster data access with data transfer rates that can process more than 2.7 terabytes an hour per drive. With an improved bit error rate (BER), LTO-7 tape delivers unmatched reliability in storage media with only one bit error every 1.25 exabytes of data, or 200,000 LTO-7 cartridges. The combination of StrongBox and LTO-7 technology will provide a new level of cost savings, reliability and performance never before seen in the industry.

The new LTO technology furthers StrongBox's unique capability to expand tape for large-scale storage through one simple-to-manage solution. The impending availability of LTO-7 in major manufacturer's tape libraries and drives can nearly triple the capacity available today in the same amount of physical space. StrongBox is the only LTFS-based network attached storage (NAS) solution that works with all major library vendors: IBM, HP, Quantum, Qualstar, and SpectraLogic.

Crossroads' own StrongBox Vseries LTFS Libraries will support LTO-7 in early 2016, with the ability to secure up to 960TB (uncompressed) in a space-efficient 12U form factor for only $32,200.

"By pairing StrongBox with LTO-7, we will see unprecedented reliability and cost efficiency for long-term data preservation," said Richard K. Coleman, Jr., President and CEO at Crossroads Systems. "As data storage grows from terabytes to petabytes to exabytes, tape is proving to be the only technology capable of massive scale at a manageable cost. We continue to see distinct and unmistakable advantages to including tape in storage architectures – no matter the size."
